How to Add a Courtesy Copy When eFiling

Learn how to easily include a courtesy copy when submitting documents electronically.

Some California courts and departments require a courtesy copy—a printed version of electronically filed documents delivered to the judge or courtroom.

You can add a Courtesy Copy Delivery (CCD) when submitting a subsequent filing in a case. The option is not available when filing a new case.

Adding a courtesy copy ensures your printed documents are prepared and delivered immediately after submission, without waiting for court acceptance.

When to Add a Courtesy Copy Delivery

You should add a Courtesy Copy Delivery when:

  • The judge or department’s standing order requires printed copies of filings.
  • The local rules specify that courtesy copies must be provided.
  • You are filing motion documents or other materials scheduled for hearing soon—many California courts require courtesy copies for these filings.

Because requirements vary, always check the court’s local rules or the assigned judge’s standing order to confirm whether a courtesy copy is required.

Note: Courtesy copies can only be added to subsequent filings—not to new case filings.

How to Add a Courtesy Copy to an eFiling

  • Begin your subsequent filing from the One Legal dashboard or matter page.
  • On the Order Information page, scroll to the Options section.
  • Check the box for Add Courtesy Copy Delivery
  • Complete the required details:
    • Service Level: Choose Standard (typically next business day) or Urgent (same day if before cutoff).
    • Delivery Location: Enter the judge’s name, department, or room number.
    • Special Instructions: Include any printing or handling notes (for example, “single-sided,” “tab exhibits”).
  • Review your order. The delivery cost appears on the Order Review page before submission.
  • Submit your filing. One Legal immediately begins preparing and delivering the courtesy copy—before the court accepts the eFiling.

After Submission

  • The courtesy copy order appears with your eFiling under Orders → Details.
  • Status updates show as Received, In Progress, and Complete.
  • Once complete, you can download a Confirmation of Delivery Report showing:
    • Delivery date and time
    • Delivery location
    • Notes or photo evidence (when permitted)
